Description

Let your creativity shine in this NEW 6-week pottery course! Amanda will instruct the class how to use the clay as a canvas with surface decorating techniques. Each Wednesday from 1pm – 3pm you will learn a new skill or tool to practice on your pottery pieces! No drawing skills required. (I promise!)

Some pottery experience is preferred, but you may sign up as a new student if you are ready to learn! We will not be using the wheels during our class instruction, though you may hop on the wheels to work on a project if you want.

Students are encouraged to bring a piece of pottery each week to work on. Pieces will need to be made in advance and prepared differently for each class. The first few week’s techniques will be used on a leatherhard surface. A piece that has been bisqued will be needed for the last few classes.

If you have heard the word “sgraffito” and wanted to know what it means, join us!

Some techniques we will cover in the 6-week course: Texture rollers, stamps, sgraffito, inlay, newsprint transfers, wax resist, stains & oxides, AND MORE!

This will be an information packed course! Come prepared with designs, patterns, shapes, & drawings in mind to use on your pottery!

Weekly topics are subject to change based on class needs:
Week 1 – Fresh slabs: stamps, rollers, carving, surface texture
Week 2 – Leatherhard clay: intro to slips, painting, sgrafitto, inlay
Week 3 – Leatherhard clay: DIY Slip transfers
Week 4 – Bisqueware: glaze, wax resist, bubble glaze
Week 5 – Bisqueware: stains, washes, oxides, slip & needle technique
Week 6 – Finished work: Critique, DIY stamps
