Chefs and potters are alike.

You wouldn’t think it at first glance, but consider the broader observations.

Both artists take their natural, from-the-earth ingredients and use them in such a way that brings distinction to the maker. No two creations are exactly alike.

The food with which the chef works is akin to the clay the potter uses. The materials can be manipulated, embellished, deconstructed, or combined with other elements that celebrates the identity and creativity of the maker.

Chef quoteThis is why the plate makes a difference.  At Earthborn Studios, the artist creates vessels so the chef can realize the end goal, which is making someone sit up and take notice. Careful consideration is given to presentation. Earthborn pottery is the obvious choice for the discriminating chef who wants the creations to stand out, both visually and functionally. The canvas, if you will, for the art placed upon it.

Both professionals are passionate about their work. They take so much pleasure in the making of their creations that they would do what they do even if no one paid them to do it. Both take their materials out of the ground, rearrange them according to their experience, put them in the fire, and offer them up to an appreciating individual.

As with most things, experience determines the outcome. Working in a medium for years hones one’s skills to the level of excellence necessary to sustain business, and themselves. Tena Payne has been working with chefs since 1997. The original chef for whom she first made plates still uses Earthborn pottery every day.

There are several reasons Earthborn pottery has remained relevant through the years. The unusual durability keeps the pottery in service for years instead of months. The ‘live edge’ process is truly randomness under control, keeping visuals interesting. The boro-silicate glazes remain unscathed throughout the life span because of the high temperatures to which we fire, maintaining their original beauty and reflectivity.

Classically simple, yet beautifully complex, the nuances inherent in a hand-made object is what Earthborn will bring to your table.

Authenticity is key. Be authentic. Choose Earthborn.
